Local Favorite Food Castle Expanding Again in Genesee County
A local favorite is getting ready to add a new location here in Genesee County. After relocating from Mundy Township to Grand Blanc Township decades ago, Food Castle is coming back to the Swartz Creek area, and it is more than just a convenience store.
Food Castle Returning to the Swartz Creek Area
Formerly located at Linden and Reid Roads, where Linden Market Place is currently located, Food Castle is now at Grand Blanc Road and Dort Highway in Grand Blanc Township. It is a bigger store offering groceries, beer, liquor, and hot food made fresh, including some of the best pizza I have ever had.

The Food Castle in Grand Blanc also has a gas station, which is quite convenient since the store is in a high-traffic location and less than a mile from I-75.
New Food Castle Store Planned for Former Hamady Plaza Site
The new Food Castle location is going in the old Rite Aid building located in the former Hamady Plaza at Miller and Seymour Roads in Clayton Township. This store, just outside the city limits of Swartz Creek, is also going to have a Marathon station like the Grand Blanc store.

But here is the thing, we are not sure exactly when it is going to open. Construction on the gas station alone will require special permits, then licensing after inspections. It might take some time.

The Marathon at Bristol and Linden Roads, as well as BG’s Party Store in Burton, had several delays in getting everything open to the public.
Other Local Genesee County Projects Facing Delays
In fact, Billy Bob’s on Dort Highway is owned by the same company. That construction project appears to have come to a halt, similar to the delay that kept MooYah, Coffee Beanery, and Marathon from moving to their new locations within the same building.

Employees at Food Castle tell us that the company’s plan is to get Billy Bob’s Market on Dort Highway up and running, then focus their attention on the new Swartz Creek Food Castle.
The Swartz Creek Food Castle Opening Could Take Time
As far as specific dates, nobody seems to know as of now. But it will be nice to grab a Food Castle sack, not a Hamady sack, of groceries in the same spot we did years ago.
