Rising grocery prices is a common complaint among consumers and likely something that hits you every time you step into a local grocery store. According to a recent study, the grocery chain that consistently has the best prices in the US has just over 100 locations here in Michigan.
You may be a creature of habit, always shopping at the grocery store you're most familiar with or the one where you notoriously find the best prices. Or you may be a bargain shopper that pores over the weekly sale ads from Meijer, Walmart, Kroger, VG's, and any other local store in your area in order to take advantage of the week's best deals.
Cheapest Grocery Store Chains in America
But you may be surprised that the chain that is credited with having the best prices in the US wasn't listed above.
US News and World Report crunched the numbers from a national survey to determine consumers' opinions of the leading national chains and find out which chains consistently offer the best value for the money.
It's important to note that many stores may not have made the cut simply because they don't have enough locations to register nationally. For instance: Most consumers in our area and throughout Michigan are familiar with Meijer. And while the Grand-Rapids-based retailer has a large footprint in Michigan, it only operates stores in six states in the Midwest. (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin)
