Yesterday (December 10, 2025) marked a major moment in Grand Blanc Township, as nurses at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital hit their 100th day on strike. It’s a milestone nobody really expected to reach when nearly 750 nurses walked off the job back on September 1, but here we are... still on the picket line, still waiting for a deal, and still watching tensions grow on both sides.

What Nurses Say They’re Fighting For

The nurses, represented by Teamsters Local 332, say this has always been about safety, specifically, safer nurse-to-patient ratios. They also accuse the hospital of dragging its feet at the bargaining table.

Henry Ford Health, meanwhile, strongly disputes that, claiming some nurses have been coordinating call-offs to qualify for higher premium pay. While negotiations have stretched on since April, the hospital has brought in travel nurses and hired replacements to keep things moving inside.

Community Support on the Picket Line

Out on the picket line, though, the momentum hasn’t let up. Teamsters members have kept a constant presence outside the Genesys campus for all 100 days, and the community has shown up just as strongly. Teamsters President Dan Glass said the support has been “phenomenal,” ranging from food and financial donations to cold-weather supplies. Hundreds of nurses, UAW workers, and supporters even braved the snow for a solidarity walk this week.

Glass says the message is simple:

Nurses care for the community, and the community is stepping up right back.

What Comes Next in Negotiations

The hospital, for its part, says it's still negotiating in good faith and remains hopeful about welcoming nurses back soon. Both sides say they want a deal, they just haven’t found one yet. More talks are expected as both parties work to set their next meeting date.
