Just as the Michigan Wolverines were clinching a national championship Monday night, a local sportscaster had to get creative in order to update viewers with the highlights of the game.

The Legal Stuff Can Really Get in the Way

Sometimes, using video and images can get complicated. For instance, every photo you see on this website and mobile app is thoroughly vetted in order to prevent photographers from suing the pants off our parent company. Well, theoretically...

As the championship game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies drew to a close late Monday evening (1/8), Mid Michigan Now's Sam Ali found himself in a tough spot. The 11 pm newscast on NBC-25 began before the live broadcast from Houston concluded, so Ali was not legally permitted to use video highlights from the game during his report.

NBC-25 Cartoon Drawings for the Win

So Ali had to get creative, and the results were hilarious.

The local sportscaster created a series of cartoon drawings to illustrate the highlights of the game. Bravo, Mr. Ali. You not only gave viewers well-crafted highlights from the game, you also captured the spirit for U of M fans as the Wolverines pulled off a national championship with a 34-13 win over the Huskies.

And bonus points for the drawing of coach Jim Harbaugh holding up the championship trophy at the end.

Ali then shared his hilarious report on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Enjoy.
