Michigan: Amazon Has Some Spiffy New Trucks Headed to Your House

The next time an Amazon truck pulls up in front of your house it may look a little different. It also may sound different, as the retailer is rolling out a new fleet of electric vehicles in Michigan.

The new all-electric trucks arrived just a few days ago at Amazon's Pontiac Delivery Service Center.

Big Plans to Go All-Electric

As you'll see in the video below from Detroit's WDIV-TV, Amazon has already incorporated more than 100 new electric vehicles into its delivery fleet at this location.

Austin Stowe tells the TV station that the retailer is moving toward a goal of being carbon neutral by 2040.

"So this is a big part of our carbon pledge," Stowe said. "Basically, part of this is having 100,000 of these vehicles on the road by 2030."

Stowe goes on to say that Amazon currently has about 10,000 electric vehicles on the road in the United States and Europe.

Amazon Partners With Rivian

According to Reuters, Amazon has partnered with electric vehicle maker Rivian to build its growing fleet of electric delivery vehicles. In July of this year, Amazon reported having only about 5,000 electric vehicles on the road. that number has doubled in just the last few months, and the retailer hopes to have about 100,000 electric vehicles on the road within the next seven years.

Amazon is also working with Volvo to add heavy-duty electric trucks to its roster of vehicles.
