
Jaws of Life Required After Terrifying Michigan School Bus Crash
It was a terrifying morning for a group of Michigan Students on their way to school this morning. A school bus taking children to school earlier today and was rear-ended by a speeding car.
How Did This Happen?
It was around 8:17 a.m. that the incident was reported to MDOT, or the Michigan Department of Transportation. Police and firefighters were immediately called to the scene.
Initial reports and areal footage indicated that a Ford Fusion rear-ended a school bus at such a high rate of speed it was stuck under the school bus. Local radio also reported that the driver of the Ford blew through a stop sign before crashing into the bus.
Where Did This Happen?
The crash happened happened in Detroit on the service drive of the southbound Lodge Freeway at Wyoming Avenue which prompted the closure of the exit ramp.
Are The Students Okay?
Thankfully, yes. A spokesperson for Detroit Public Schools said in a statement that none of the children on the bus were hurt, but the driver did receive some injuries.
A local reporter said that the driver of the Ford has to be removed from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life.
It isn't clear how many students were on the bus at the time of the impact, but several children were standing on the side of the road after the crash. Multiple media sources report that the kids were transferred to another bus and taken to school.
Police were on the scene until after 9 a.m. this morning and have yet to release further information.
