Finally, after what feels like an endless stretch of teeth-chattering cold, Michigan is about to catch a much-needed break. We’ve dealt with brutal snowstorms, subzero temperatures, and wind chills in the negative double digits. I’m sure we can all agree that a warm-up, even if slight, is welcomed by all Michiganders.

Michigan’s Arctic Cold Finally Eases

This weekend marks a turning point after weeks of snow, ice, and cold. MLive is reporting that the worst of the Arctic air will back off, and temperatures will finally start creeping toward something that resembles normal.

By Sunday, highs climb into the 20s, and the best part is they stay there through much of next week. After more than a week of barely getting out of the teens, that’s going to feel like a downright heatwave.

How Lake-Effect Snow Impacts Mid-Michigan Roads

There’s more good news. Lake-effect snow will begin to wind down as drier air settles in, meaning fewer surprise whiteouts and less time spent driving on snow-covered roads. It will not be completely snow-free, though.

Another system could bring light snow late Sunday into Monday, and a fast-moving clipper may brush the state early next week. But we’re talking minor impacts. Nuisance snow, not shovel-twice-a-day snow.
