Here Are the Most Dangerous Roundabouts in Michigan
Love 'em or hate 'em (check that - nobody actually 'loves' them), roundabouts are a way of life here in Michigan and these are the most dangerous throughout our state.
Roundabouts in Michigan
There are currently about 180 roundabouts - or as your GPS refers to them, "traffic circles" - here in Michigan. You may despise them, but experts say they make traffic flow more efficiently at intersections and reduce the risk of injury or death. Data from the Michigan Department of Transportation analyzed by Michigan Auto Law indicates that while there are more crashes in roundabouts, there are significantly fewer injuries and fatalities caused by accidents.
Fun Fact: Genesee County's first roundabout was built in 2015 at the intersection of Hill Rd. and Elms Rd.
Fun Fact #2: Michigan's first roundabout was built in Oakland County in 1999.

The 10 Most Dangerous Roundabouts in Michigan
While many of Michigan's notoriously dangerous roundabouts are in the Metro Detroit area, there are a couple of entries in our Top 10 list in other busy metropolitan areas.
Michigan Auto Law crunched the data from the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit. The 2023 numbers are the latest statistics available, based on traffic accident reports from local law enforcement and police departments throughout the state.
The ranking is based on total reported crashes. Crash data from roundabouts constructed in 2023 is not included because a full year of data is needed in order to evaluate crash data.
