As we get ready to celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, I thought I’d share a few of the goofy phrases my mom used to say — stuff that still makes me laugh all these years later.

A couple of these phrases were popular, especially with older generations, but a few were things I've heard spoken by one person — and one person only: my mother.

Promise Not to Be Offended by Some of the Things My Mom Used to Say

While I chose not to add the "Not Suitable for Work" (NSFW) tag to my headline, I did consider it.

My mom didn't swear like a sailor or tell off-color jokes. She was a class act (maybe my bias is showing) who, at the same time, always spoke her mind.

Some of these witticisms may be a little colorful, but if you've gotten this far, I'll assume you're not easily offended.

Consider This a Mother's Day Tribute to My Mom

The idea to write this article about Mom has rattled around in my head each year as Mother's Day approached. It's been 17 years since she passed (where does the time go?), and this is the year I finally decided it was time to pen this tribute to my late mom.

And I vetted the idea with my sister, asking if she saw any reason not to pay homage to our mom in this less-than-conventional manner. She thought it was a great idea and said, "George, Mom would laugh her a$$ off."

Some of the Goofy 'Stuff' My Mom Used to Say

To put it mildly, my mother had a way with words. It would be wholly inaccurate to say she was crass, but she did, however, sometimes share some colorful expressions.

Did her witticisms sometimes make me cringe? Of course. But now that she's gone, I recall fondly some of the things that would come flying out of her mouth.
