Violation: Is Mundy Township’s Megasite Project in Jeopardy?
Ever since the idea was proposed, residents of Mundy Township in Genesee County have been fired up over the development of a new manufacturing megasite. This week developers were hit with a violation. So is this new megasite in jeopardy?
The Beginning of the Megasite
Back in 2019 Mundy Township made an amendment to their zoning ordinance to allow for what's called the Advanced Manufacturing District or 'AMD'. Last April the Michigan Strategic Fund or 'MSF' gave the green light to a grant sponsored initially by the Flint and Genesee Group Foundation.

The grant was for a $9.2 million dollars designated for assistance in preparing the site for the massive construction project. The land designated for the project is the area between Maple Road to the north and Hill Road to the south, and Linden Road to the east and Elms Road on the west end.
Residents Not Happy
Despite the fact that some residents are not happy about the new site the project is still moving forward. Mundy Township has always been known for it's rural charm so close to the busy life of Downtown Flint.
But in the past few decades the Township has undergone massive changes. From subdivision development to paving country roads residents have fought with the Township to maintain the country feel that Mundy Township provides.
Violations at Mundy Township Megasite
During a recent inspection officials found several violations at the construction. This week the violation letter was issued involving the wetlands in the area. The state forced developers to stop work that was not authorized. So what will happen next?
The contractors and developers have until May 5th to file a response with state regulators.
