Parents across Michigan are on edge after a disturbing and heartbreaking discovery in Canton Township. Police say a sewing needle was found inside a child’s Halloween candy, a fun-sized Twix bar that was collected while trick-or-treating in the neighborhood near Saltz and Sheldon Roads.

Police Confirm and Share Warning Photos

According to investigators, the child noticed something sharp sticking out of the candy wrapper and immediately showed it to their mother. When she carefully opened it, she found a sewing needle embedded deep inside the chocolate bar.

The family quickly contacted the Canton Police Department, who confirmed the discovery and shared several photos online showing the dangerous find. You can see the Public Safety Alert on the Canton Police Department's Facebook page.

Parents Urged to Check Every Piece of Candy

Officers said the needle was clearly visible, even through the wrapper in some images. Police believe this may be an isolated incident, but they are taking it very seriously.

Out of an abundance of caution, they’re urging parents to inspect every piece of candy before allowing their children to eat it. Any suspicious or tampered items should be discarded immediately.

Community Shaken by Disturbing Find

For parents in the community, the incident has sparked both fear and sadness. One mother said:

My kids have grown up here, and we’ve never had anything like this happen. You just hope it was some sort of accident because kids deserve to enjoy Halloween without fear.

Police are still investigating how the needle ended up in the candy, and they encourage anyone who finds a foreign object or something unusual in a treat bag to contact the Canton Police Department right away at 734-394-5400.
