Michigan’s First Primark Store Will be Opening Soon

A store you've heard of but probably never had the opportunity to visit is about to open its first location in Michigan. Primark is coming to Auburn Hills.

What is Primark?

Primark is an international clothing retailer based in Dublin, Ireland. Primark sells clothing for men, women, children, and babies as well as accessories, footwear, and a few home essentials and beauty products.

Some of its offerings include licensed products from Disney, the NFL, and the NBA. Crain's Business Detroit notes that the chain also sells t-shirts starting at $4 and jeans starting at $10.

The chain touts selling clothing items at prices that are often cheaper than other comparable retailers.

The Original Penneys

The Irish company's first store opened as Penneys in Ireland. It opened in 1969 and is still in operation today. As the company expanded into the United States, it was branded as Primark because of opposition from the American company JC Penney. JC Penney has since agreed not to do business in Ireland as Penneys.

Primark has a limited footprint in the United States. The store in the Great Lakes Crossing shopping center will be the chain's 26th location.

A Plan to Open More US Stores

Kevin Tulip is the president of the chain's US division. He says the company plans to increase its presence in the US.

"Entering the state of Michigan is an exciting step for us at Primark and we're already feeling the love from the community as we build our store team and educate those new to the brand on all we offer," Tulip said in a news release. "The folks in and around the Motor City have welcomed us with open arms and we can't wait to return the favor as we gear up for opening day."
