Rite Aid Closings: Now Midland and Another Michigan Town Impacted
Rite Aid has been closing numerous stores over the last year. Unfortunately, Midland and Howell, Michigan are on the list.
This brings the total number of Rite Aid stores to close, in Michigan, to 25.

Rite Aid has been dealing with a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing while struggling under its mountain of debt. It's also facing settlements and possible lawsuits related to opioid prescriptions.
Rite Aid Closing Midland, MI Location
Closure of the Midland location at Saginaw Road, behind the Garber Dealership and JoAnn Fabrics, leaves the area with only one other pharmacy.
That's a Walgreens on the southeast corner of the Saginaw Road and Business US-10 intersection.
One other Rite Aid location remains in Midland, just down Saginaw Road at Ashman Street.
Rite Aid Closed Howell, MI Location
The Howell store closed abruptly, according to MLive. That was located at 1002 E Grand River Avenue at National Street.
In recent years, Walgreen's attempted buying Rite Aid for just under $20 billion. That was rejected because they'd have to spin-off over 1,000 stores in the merger.
Then, Albertsons (a grocery chain similar to Kroger) offered over $20 billion to merge in 2018. That deal was called off, too.
Let's hope two things happen: 1) their employees are offered employment at nearby locations or find a new job, quickly. 2) Customers shift their medications to nearby pharmacies, if they're left without Rite Aid in their area.
