Here we are, smack dab in the middle of the heat of the season and I bet you can't help reminiscing now and then about those good ole days of summer when you were a kid. Back then it was those little things that made summertime so special.

I loved those hot summer days playing outside with the neighborhood kids and the highlight of the day was the sound of those chimes and bells playing that whimsical tune letting us know he was on his way...the Ice Cream Man. The speed you had run into the house screaming to your parents matched an Olympic track star because you had to have a dollar immediately before you missed him.

Kids and ice cream trucks just seemed to symbolize everything that was summer years ago. Sadly, it seems that little bit of simplicity we had has faded away. I can't remember the last time I saw an ice cream truck making its way through a neighborhood. Although you can find some of your all-time favorite truck treats at your local grocery store, it just doesn't taste the same as they did coming off the truck you chased down.

In case you forgot, it’s time to get nostalgic. Here are a few summertime treats you may have forgotten.

With a big chocolate tip! It was always a favorite right off the ice cream truck or from the Good Humor man, the makers of the summer treat.

It was our patriotic Popsicle. Eventually evolving into the bigger Bomb-pop, it would cool you down while it stained your lips red, your hands blue, and tasted like lemonade.

Creamsicle

Frank Epperson invented this frozen dessert in 1905, he was successful in his experiment of enclosing vanilla ice cream with a layer of frozen fruit juice when he was 11 years old. Yep...it was a kid that gave kids everywhere a yummy summer treat to love.

This was the one that had me running full steam after the ice cream man! Chocolate and cake on a stick....heaven. This one you took your time to enjoy...every little bit of it!

Choco Taco was made to blow our minds with deliciousness. Although known as a Good Humor-Breyers ice cream treat, invented in the early 80s by Alan Drazen, Senior Vice President of the Jack and Jill Ice Cream Company. Klondike also has its version of the twist on the taco available.

Consider it a yummy challenge. You can have the gumball at the bottom, but you have to finish off all of the cherry-slushed ice first. Challenge accepted!

Snow Cone

So simple, yet so good. All those flavors to choose from poured over shaved ice, just made the summer heat go away. Admit it... the best part was drinking the juice from the bottom once the ice was gone. Yeah...I know.
