Saginaw Woman Charged: Would Have Kept Shooting, Ran Out of Bullets
A woman from Saginaw is facing serious charges after police say she shot a man multiple times, then mocked him as he cried out in pain.
The Shooting and 911 Call
According to investigators, 32-year-old Darnisha M. Sanders called 911 around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, and admitted she had shot a 42-year-old man inside her home on Maple Street. Prosecutors say that during the call, she could be heard taunting the man as he struggled in the background.

Sanders allegedly told dispatchers she opened fire because the man was antagonizing her. She also admitted she had run out of bullets and claimed that if she’d had more, she would have kept shooting, even going after his fingers and toes.

When officers arrived, they found the man with six gunshot wounds, including one to the head. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police recovered Sanders’ handgun, which they confirmed was registered in her name.
Arrest and Charges Against Sanders
Authorities say Sanders continued to mock the victim after being taken into custody, again complaining about running out of ammunition. Officials have not shared what kind of relationship she had with the victim.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Sanders appeared in court before Saginaw County District Judge A.T. Frank. She was formally charged with assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm in a building, and two counts of felony firearm. The most serious charge carries a possible life sentence.
Community and Prosecutor Statements
Prosecutors described Sanders as a danger to the community, pointing to her lack of remorse. Judge Frank agreed and set her bond at $500,000. Sanders is due back in court for a preliminary examination on Oct. 14.
