Be sure to raise your fork this Thanksgiving for the lady who created a turkey day favorite - the green bean casserole. Dorcas Reilly the woman behind the dish, passed away on October 15th at the age of 92.

So how did this casserole come to life? Mrs. Reilly was a kitchen supervisor at Campbell's Soup in 1955 when she combined the ingredients of Campbell' Cream of Mushroom Soup, green beans and French's Fried Onions. Wahla - a family tradition was born.

Dorcas Reilly was no one trick pony in the kitchen. She was also part of creating tomato soup meatloaf and tuna noodle casserole. Damn girl! Although Dorcas is now gone, families will be enjoying her green bean casserole for many years to come. My sister Kristen makes it every year for our Thanksgiving family dinner. I used to make it - but she took over once my family found out I was mixing it together inside of my car on the way to dinner. Whatever.

Do you eat green bean casserole on Thanksgiving Day or year round? Whenever you eat it - give a nod to Dorcas Reilly.
