This past summer The Lapeer Downtown Development Authority put on display some 70 red, white and blue banners honoring local veterans. The banners depict service members from all eras and branches of service, from the Civil War to active military. The hero's names, faces and military branch have been attached to lampposts through out downtown Lapeer.
"These are the people for the reason we have independence day," said Jim Alt who is the Lapeer Downtown Development Authority Director.
This Saturday the banners will be taken down and everyone is invited to be at the old courthouse in downtown Lapeer for the event and ceremony. All retired veterans and active service personnel featured on the banners as well as their families are invited to enjoy light refreshments and a ceremony to receive their banners. Veterans or their surviving family will also be gifted with a commemorative pin.
