Lowell George and Bill Payne formed Little Feat in Los Angeles in 1969. Lowell was a member of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention and Bill had auditioned for The Mothers but never joined. 'Little Feat' came from a comment made by Mothers' drummer Jimmy Carl Black about Lowell's 'little feet.' The spelling of 'feat' was an homage to the Beatles. Little Feat remains an eclectic blend of rock and roll, blues, R&B, boogie, country, folk, gospel, soul, funk and jazz fusion although the band has undergone several lineup changes over the years. Here they are performing Dixie Chicken on The Midnight Special in 1977.
