Macy's announced that 68 of their stores will be closing this year, four of them located in Michigan.

The plan to close additional stores is coming as a surprise to some, considering that Macy's had originally planned on cutting layers of management.  That plan is still in place, along with the closure of many stores.

The Michigan locations that will be closing their doors are:

  • Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek
  • Westland Mall in Westland
  • Eastland Center in Harper Woods
  • Lansing Mall in Lansing

In total, 335 Michigan employees will be out of work, although some have been given the opportunity to relocate.

The announcement came only days after Sears/Kmart made the announcement to close multiple Michigan stores.

Online shopping has obviously made a huge impact on the bigger chain stores.  Do you think that any of the brick and mortar stores will be able to survive, or will all of our shopping options soon be online?
