MI Secretary Of State Offers Three Gender Options On Drivers Licenses
Beginning next week Michiganders will have a third gender option for their drivers license. You may choose from the following options,
- M: Male
- F: Female
- X: Non-binary (person does not identify exclusively as male or female)
If this is something you don't understand, that is okay. However, not understanding something does not give you the right to name call or bash someone. If 'X' does not apply to you - move on. Choose your 'M' or 'F' and go about your day.
I wish I could say I am surprised by peoples ignorance - but unfortunately I am not. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why people get so worked up about something that has nothing to do with them blows my mind.
That being said, you know as well as I do people are going to complain about the Non-binary option. Lame, but true. I have other things to worry about than what people want to put on their drivers license. If that is all you do have to complain about, consider yourself lucky or should I say #blessed?
According to The Detroit News, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has been working on this for a few years. Benson had the following to say about the change in a recent statement,
'We have been working toward this goal since 2019, when we first removed the barriers for residents to change their sex marker in order to help protect their safety and accurately reflect their identity.'
If you would like to change your drivers license to 'X' you can schedule an appointment to do so after Monday, November 10th.
