Michigan Grandmother Was Having “Really Bad Night”
Julie Leach from Three Rivers was working the third shift when she checked her Powerball ticket on her lunch break in the drive-thru line at McDonald’s. She was having a ‘really bad night.’ She played in a lottery pool with co-workers but stopped to buy $20 worth of extra tickets on her way to work. One of the tickets she bought was the lone winner of the $310.5M jackpot. She didn’t believe she had won at first and returned to Aquatic Bathware to ask co-workers to verify it. Leach said her partner of 36 years ‘wanted to go to work. I said ‘Are you crazy?’’ She opted for the lump sum payment of $197 million which is about $140 million after taxes.
