Michigan Has A Drug Problem According To Recent Study
Michigan is now ranked second in the nation when it comes to drug use, which is 8 spots higher than we were ranked last year.
Wallethub put out the report recently showing that drug abuse in Michigan has actually increased over the last year. The only state with a higher rate of drug abuse is Washington DC according to the study.
So what's going on in our state that has allowed the drug abuse problem to become so big?
That's not an easy question to answer, but there are some good signs for Michigan's future in the study.
The results show that Michigan is not in the top 5 in any of the following statistics.
- Teenage Drug Use
- Drug availability on campuses in the state
- Most Opioid prescriptions
- Most overdose deaths per Capita
The study breaks down many angles of the drug use throughout the United States, and offers a good look at how things have spiraled out of control. Take a look at the full study here.
In the meantime, we need to talk to our kids about the dangers of drugs to keep them from falling victim to the epidemic. We also need to make sure that big pharma is not unaccountable for the opioid epidemic that has hit our state extremely hard in recent years.
