April is Distracted Driving Awareness month and the Michigan State Police will be on high alert.

In a news release, MSP states that they, along with local agencies around the state, will partake in a nationwide mobilization period from April 11th to 15th. During that week they will be cracking down and looking for those engaging in distracted behaviors. These include:

  • Texting
  • Eating & drinking
  • Reading
  • Watching a video
  • Putting on makeup/grooming
  • Using a GPS

Believe it or not, talking to other people in the car and playing with the radio can also get you in trouble. In that case, just shut up and leave the station on us :-) Get more info & tips here.

Between 2016 and 2017, there was an increase in crashes by 57% and fatalities by 67% due to distracted driving. To no surprise, texting is the greatest distraction of all. It's illegal to read, write, or send a text message while driving in Michigan.
