Michigan’s First Portillo’s Now Open

Calling all foodies, the very first Portillo's restaurant opened today, March 16th, in Sterling Heights. I Googled the directions, from the Flint area it will take you roughly 55 minutes to get there. From the menu, it definitely looks like the food is worth the drive.

If you are not familiar, Portillo's has been serving unrivaled Chicago street food since 1963. Taken from the official Portillo's website, here is a description of what they specialize in,

We're known for our famous Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chopped salad, cheese fries, homemade chocolate cake, and chocolate cake shake. Our Italian beef is slow-roasted for four hours, thinly sliced, and served on freshly baked French bread. Then, it's dipped in hot gravy made with our homemade blend of seasonings that we've been perfecting for 50 years.

Haven't tried Portillo's yet? Order an Italian beef, dipped with sweet or hot peppers (add mozzarella if you're feeling cheesy), or a Chicago-style hot dog "dragged through the garden" and you'll see what all the hype is about.

I don't know about you, but a Chicago style hot dog sounds real good to me. If you want to order a whole bunch of hot dogs for a party or get together, you can - Portillo's offers catering too. You can order Buffet Style, Fast Packs, or even Take & Bake. If you don't want to make the drive to Sterling Heights, you can even have Portillo's shipped to your home. What a time to be alive.
