About dang time we see more strong female leads in science fiction movies. I applaud you Star Wars.

The first teaser trailer for the Star Wars movie spinoff, Rouge One, has been delivered to the Internet for our viewing pleasure and people are freaking out. Here's why, because the lead is a woman. Really. Some people are upset that the lead character in this soon to be released film, is a woman.

While most of everyone else I know was super jazzed about the trailer and didn't even mention the fact that the lead is a lady, others, not so much. Here are a few examples:

Guys, guys, calm down! You are starting to sound hysterical. Can we all just take a step back and realize the fact that most science fiction movies have male heroes? A male hero/lead is pretty much the standard in this category. Of course you have your roles like Sigourney Weaver in Alien,  that I would consider going towards the 'strong female lead', but even in that role she still stripped down to her skivvies and ran around being chased by an alien.

Look, I am just saying that we need to have more strong female lead roles. Especially in sci-fi movies that don't require the actress to strip down in order to appeal to the males in the audience. I mean, you don't see Han Solo getting down to his tighty whities to be chased around by Ewoks to appeal to the female fans of Star Wars.

I am glad that the Star Wars franchise is now getting on board with this crazy idea that women deserve to be represented in positive, strong, heroic roles. Seriously, if you are upset by the fact that this movie features a female lead, please convince me why in the world I should not welcome this change. Also, explain to all of the lady sci-fi fans that have been waiting for a major franchise to pick up on how awesome it would be to actually treat women like people and not exotic 'play things' for the male hero to 'utilize' a la Captain Kirk style.

Okay, I will simmer down my 'nerd rage' on this subject. But, I want to leave you with this thought. Please understand that for years, guys have had a major representation in science fiction movies as daring heroes that fight for what they believe in and do it with style to where hundreds of kids look up to the characters for ques on how to live their lives. It's finally the ladies turn. So get over it, bros.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16.
