Numerous Safety Violations and Failed Building Inspections Shuts Down Detroit’s Russell Industrial Center
Detroit's Russell Industrial Center is the home to hundreds of artists and now they all have to find a new place to go because the Center is now shut down due to safety violations.
Motor City Muckraker is reporting that the City of Detroit has informed the owner that everyone has to vacate the premises immediately because the building is unsafe due to a litany of safety violations, failure to obtain proper permits and illegal use of space.
The Russell Industrial Center houses a lot of different artistic community spaces including art galleries and music studios. Which the city is claiming are illegal because the building is zoned as a factory. Along with the building failing to pass building inspections due to falling brick and fire hazards, the city has shut down the center.
