Volunteers wanting to assist elderly veterans are in for a treat Fat Tuesday, February 13th. A coffee hour, featuring delirious Paczkis will be held at 9 -10 a.m. at the Lapeer County Veterans Affairs office on West Nepessing next to the old Court House. Also served that day will be an explanation of the KISS (Keeping Independent Seniors Safe) Program. Volunteers keep daily tabs on elderly veterans via the telephone. The program is a first in Lapeer County and is coordinated by the Valley Area on Aging and the LCVA.

The Lapeer County Vet to Vet Support Group will hold its monthly meeting Feb. 8 at the Lapeer County Veterans Affairs. The confidential group meets from 5:15-7:15 and refreshments will be provided. There is no formal agenda. Veterans will have the opportunity to discuss issues affecting veterans and their transition to civilian life. RSVP is encouraged to insure there are enough refreshments.
