Possible Stranger Danger Situation Reported in Davison School District

Officials in the Davison Community School district are warning parents about potential stranger-danger issues after a suspicious incident was reported this morning. (4/23)

According to an email sent to parents (below), a woman approached a Hahn Intermediate student in the Woodridge subdivision and directed the student to get into her car. The woman is reported to be in her mid 30s and was driving a red SUV. The Davison Township Police Department is investigating the incident.

School officials are reminding parents to make sure their children are aware of their surroundings and that they know what to do in the event they are approached by strangers.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have learned of a suspicious incident that occurred this morning in the Woodridge subdivision where a driver reportedly approached a Hahn Intermediate student and directed the student to get into her vehicle. Davison Township Police responded to and are investigating the incident.

The driver, described as a female in her mid-30s, was driving a bright red SUV-styled vehicle. The Woodridge subdivision is located off Atherton Road, between Atlas and M-15.

The student was in her driveway at about 6:55 a.m. when the incident occurred. The student did the right thing by running away and reporting the incident immediately to her father, who contacted police and checked the area for the vehicle.

Please take a few minutes to remind your children of the importance of being aware of their surroundings and review with them what they should do in case they are approached by a stranger.  For example: Point out safe places. Show your children safe places to play, safe roads and paths to take and safe places to go if there’s trouble. Teach children to trust their instincts. Explain that if they ever feel scared or uncomfortable, they should get away as fast at they can and tell an adult. Tell them that sometimes adults they know may make them feel uncomfortable, and they should still get away as fast as possible and tell an-other adult what happened. Reassure children that you will help them when they need it.  Teach children to be assertive. Make sure they know that it’s OK to say no to an adult and to run away from adults in dangerous situations.
