TV reboots are starting to run amok once more, but it’s another matter when Marvel director James Gunn is guarding one. The Guardians of the Galaxy favorite may take a crack at reviving classic cop duo Starsky & Hutch, bringing a few other big Gunns with him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn will write the new Starsky & Hutch TV series and potentially direct, penning the script with brother Brian Gunn and cousin Mark Gunn (there’s a lot of Gunns). The series is being shopped to both cable and broadcast outlets, and is described as “a character-driven hourlong procedural.”

That said, Gunn himself seemed to toss some cold water on the news:

The original series started in 1975 with an ABC movie, starring David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser. Afterwards, the full series ran for 92 episodes over four seasons, to say nothing of the 2004 Todd Phillips movie starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

Starsky & Hutch joins the long list of classic TV cop shows getting the reboot treatment, which also recently added Vin Diesel helming a Miami Vice reboot. We’ll see where Starsky & Hutch lands, but is James Gunn’s involvement enough to give it a shot?
