On March 29, 1968, Fleetwood Mac released 'Black Magic Woman' two years before it became a big hit for Santana. The song was actually written and sung by original Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green.
Long before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks entered the picture, Fleetwood Mac was a triumph of British blues. Formed in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, all of whom had recently left John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, guitarist Jeremy Spencer was added shortly thereafter.
They've gone on to far greater success in the years since releasing their first few albums, but for some Fleetwood Mac fans, there's really never been any substitute for the band's original lineup.
This week in 1970, guitarist Peter Green part of the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac decides to quit the group to follow his religious beliefs. Because Fleetwood Mac had become so successful and making lots of money he asked the band to donate most of their earnings to charity.
