Kettering University announced that the Atwood Races would be starting a little earlier than planned due to the extreme heat.

The heat wave has been severe enough to issue heat warnings throughout the end of the week, going into Saturday. Kettering responded by moving the time of the races a little earlier to try and beat the extreme heat. There are also chances for thunderstorms later in the day that could be avoided.

The new schedule as listed by Kettering is as follows.

  • 5K Run - 7:30 am
  • 5K Walk - 7:31 am
  • 10K Run - 7:40 am
  • 10K Walk - 7:41 am
  • Kids Dash - 9:30 am

Kettering put out a special note for those runners that are planning on taking part in the duo race.

For those doing the Duo, once you are done with your 5K, head back to the start line to immediately start the 10K leg. The 10K start line will be open until 8:45 a.m.

You can still register for the race here, but please make sure you are prepared for the extreme heat. Even if you're just going to watch the races, sunscreen and water are necessities. Try to limit your exposure to the heat, and make sure to drink a lot of water.
