The Salvation Army of Genesee County is hiring bell ringers for the upcoming holiday season.

You will start to see the red kettle's popping up all around Genesee County, and that means you'll be hearing the familiar ringing of the Salvation Army bells. Last year the bell ringing campaign was put on hold because of the pandemic, but the Salvation Army is going to be back strong this season.

The Salvation Army of Genesee County is hiring bell ringers right now, and they are always accepting volunteer applications. The hiring event is happening today, Monday October 18th from 10am to 2pm at their downtown Flint office.

Before you jump to sign up, you should know that this is not the easiest job. Major Kathy Hellstrom is heading up the hiring, and talked about being a bell ringer.

t’s not an easy job because of the outdoor environment. The position will pay $9.65 an hour, but there may be some bonuses for job performance

Despite the tough part of the job, many people can use it as an opportunity as Hellstrom explained in the press release.

A lot of the folks we end up hiring lack some of the job history and basic job skills, so we give them an opportunity to work on those skills and to gain work employment and get better. Those folks have an opportunity to market themselves

No matter your reason for becoming a bell ringer, I can personally tell you that the reward is knowing that you're helping people right here in our community.

I've volunteered as a bell ringer many years in Genesee County, and I am always amazed by the generosity of our community. Parents, kids, and everyone in-between always dig in their pockets to make sure they put something in the red kettle.

If you're interested in volunteering to be a bell ringer this season, you can do that here.
