Heads up, Mother Nature is about to remind us it's winter. Although temperatures will hit 40 degrees on Tuesday of this week, by Wednesday we will be back to a winter wonderland just in time for Ground Hog Day.

As of Tuesday, the National Weather Service had issued a Winter Storm Watch. The watch covered multiple counties including Genesee, Oakland, and Lapeer. The Winter Storm Watch goes into effect Wednesday, February 1, at 7:00 am, and lasts through Thursday, February 3, at 11:00 pm. So where do we stand as of right now? According to NBC25 & FOX66 Chief Meteorologist, Ahmad Bajjey, we are in for a pretty big dose of winter.

"Genesee county can definitely expect a sizeable winter storm", Bajjey told us. "Looks as minimum 6 inches for the county. The potential right now is up to 10 inches. Any shift north would put us closer to a foot".

When Does a Winter Storm Watch Switch to a Winter Storm Warning?

Right now we have been issued a Winter Storm Watch for the area, but that can, and most likely, will change. According to Bajjey, Watches are issued 48 hours out from a storm. Once the last piece of the puzzle falls in place, usually 24 hours out, warnings and advisories will be issued for storms of this size.

"I expect Genesee would end up with a Winter Storm Warning. Areas like Saginaw and the Thumb will probably get high-end advisories. Gusty winds Thursday will help with drifting and blowing snow. Anyone in a warning should plan to avoid travel during the warned time."
