What’s the Best ‘Last Song of the Night’? [VIDEO]

I've been hosting karaoke since the late 1990s, and I've been doing it pretty much the same way since I started. One new singer for every singer that's had a chance, and once you're in the rotation we keep a spot for you. The only new rules I've added are, if you're easily offended, Do NOT enter, and you must be having fun at all times!

I was trained by Bob Wells in the good ol' days at Maxie's, not to be confused with the horrific Goodfellas days. One thing Bob did that I loved, and still do every night to this day, is close the night with a classic song by The Spaniels, 'Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight'. I've taken a lot of heat for refusing to play 'Closing Time' by Semisonic.

I'm not gonna lie, I hate that song. Not to mention, it a song about giving birth! Why would I want to play that at all? The Spaniels tune, reintroduced in the movie 'Three Men and a Baby', is a better fit for my karaoke show as it slows things down on a charming, innocent tone. It takes me back to a time when people still 'courted' one another and times seemed much simpler.

Back in the day I would play slow songs for the last 15 minutes to get people out of the room. Now I play whatever right up until 1:58am, but instead of leaving when I start the song they dance! It's great!

So if you plan on joining my alter ego, Just Bob & The Nite Time Party for karoke and dance, you can count on hearing 'Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight', and you can bet that I won't play 'Closing Time'... ever!
