Carl Coffey

Paper or plastic? Other than bagging groceries at the A&P in town or milking cows on Daddy and Mother’s dairy farm, I’ve only ever worked “on-air” in radio. After high school, I read the obituary report on the Lapeer radio station (yep, same frequency) and was a Mortarman in the 4rth Infantry Division in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Bringing free-form radio back to Detroit in creating and hosting "The Rif Rock Café” and being “Your Afternoon Coffey Break” were high-points of my radio career in the Motor City. I’m glad for the opportunity to entertain and inform listeners every morning on US 103.1, to promote the neighborhood and to be part of the community I grew up in.

Sam’s Surprise [VIDEO]

A dog found in Iowa has been returned to his owner in Louisiana after being missing nearly 4 years. Sam, a Yorkshire Terrier, was given to Karisa Lambert when she was 4 years old but he disappeared from his family’s backyard in Bridge City, Louisiana. He was found wandering around an elementary school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, during Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week. A microchip implant enabled authorities to identify Sam and reach his family.

Prop 1 Vote Less Than 1 Week Away: Who’s Funding Safe Roads Yes!?

On May 5, we’ll head to the polls to vote on raising Michigan’s sales tax from 6 to 7 percent to help fund roads. I wondered who was funding the Safe Roads Yes! television ads I’ve been seeing. Safe Roads Yes! has raised $8.7M to promote Prop 1 according to campaign finance reports with more than half of the dollars coming from an association representing construction companies across the state including road and bridge builders.

Game 7: It Doesn’t Get Any More Unpredictable Than This [VIDEO]

The Red Wings have won Games 1, 3 and 5. The Lightning prevailed in Games 2, 4 and 6. Are the odds in favor of the Red Wings winning Game 7? Hopefully, Pavel Datsyuk will be a nightmare for the Lightning tonight. “He's smart. He's always in the right positions. He has one of the best sticks in the league. He's a great faceoff guy as well,” says Lightning Captain Steven Stamkos about the challenges of facing Datsyuk.

2015 Earth Day Week: Twenty Tunes About Our Big, Beautiful Planet [VIDEO]

I’m wrapping-up Earth Day Week with a list of twenty of the best Earth Day songs ever including Joe Walsh’s 1992 solo album ‘Songs For A Dying Planet.’ He closes the record with a spare, two-minute plea, a metronome ticking in the background sounding like the Doomsday Clock counting down: "We’re killing everything that’s alive, And anyone who tries to deny it, Wears a tie, And gets paid to lie.”
