Tony Rettman

Tony Rettman is a freelance music journalist whose work has appeared in The Village Voice, Vice, Philadelphia Weekly, Cleveland Scene, Arthur, Swindle, Signal to Noise, Mean and Thrasher. In 2010, Revelation Records Publishing released his first book, Why Be Something That You’re Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979-1985. Rettman is currently working on his second book; an oral history of the New York Hardcore Punk scene.

40 Years Ago: The Allman Brothers Band Release ‘Brothers and Sisters’

To say the Allman Brothers Band were up against a wall in the fall of 1972 would be something of an understatement. Just a year before, they had lost guitarist and co-founder Duane Allman in a motorcycle accident. In November 1972, during the recording of their fifth album, ‘Brothers and Sisters,’ their bass player, Berry Oakley, met a similar fate on his bike just three blocks from where Allman was tragically struck and killed.
