Community Protest At City Hall On Monday
Flint School Board Member and candidate for the 34th District State Representative David Davenport is orchestrating a protest this coming Monday, July 21. It’s a community protest against the raises of the Flint City Council and Mayor Dayne Walling.
Davenport is rallying all citizens, especially senior citizens, to protest the raises that were given by Emergency Financial Manager Darnell Early for the 2014-2015 city budget.
Most senior citizens in Flint are on a fixed income, and with water rates on the rise, many senior citizens’ water service has been shut off, or are in shutoff status. The protestors will demand that the money budgeted for the pay increases be placed in a fund to help senior citizens with atrocious water bills.
In a statement, Davenport said, “The mayor and council members got us into this mess, and now we are suffering while they are riding off into the sunset with raises in their pockets. Is this fair?”
I will talk to David Davenport on the air Monday morning at 7:30am before the protest on the lawn of City Hall at 3:00pm. Do you think this is fair? Will you be a part of the protest? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
