Just in time for Lapeer Days this weekend, they will be demolishing the second floor facade of the downtown Lapeer building that burned last November. Also coming down is the fence that blocked the sidewalk and parking places in front of it.

The target has always been to have it cleaned up and ready for Lapeer days, and things are on that timeline. The entire project is expected to take about ten days to complete. The fire had destroyed four apartments that were on the top floor, and the fire left the top third of the front wall leaning toward the street. That portion was eliminated yesterday. The City of Lapeer now owns the parcel of property between the Pix Theater and Burke's Flowers. All should be ready for Lapeer days as planned!
