• The supply of type O negative blood at the American Red Cross has dropped to critical levels.

• Type O negative blood is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations.

• The Red Cross urges those eligible type O negative blood donors to make and keep an appointment to donate blood as soon as possible.

• We especially encourage those type O negative donors who meet the eligibility criteria to consider becoming a double red cell donor.

• Each day, the Great Lakes Region of the American Red Cross needs to collect 700 units of blood for patients and hospitals.
