A man accused of shooting his dog in the head with a crossbow bolt has until today to enter a plea deal according to WXYZ TV otherwise a date for a jury trial will be set. Christopher Scott, 28, of Goodland Township who is charged with felony animal cruelty says he had “just cause” in attempting to euthanize Gemma, a 2-year old flat-coated retriever, under state law. If convicted of the charge, Scott could be sentenced to four years in prison. Gemma is under the care of The Devoted Barn, a 53-acre animal rescue and rehabilitation facility in Monroe County that provides a place for animals to heal both physically and emotionally from the cruelty and neglect they have endured.
