One Million Moms Group Wants GEICO Ad Yanked — And You Won’t Believe Why

GEICO has a seemingly infinite number of ad campaigns going these days, but who would’ve guessed that one featuring a talking pig would cause such controversy?

The group One Million Moms is furious that an ad for the insurance company starring the swine, named Maxwell, is offensive because it endorses bestiality. The group is now asking its members to encourage GEICO to pull the spot.

The commercial in question features Maxwell in a broken-down car with a woman who is upset the animal has used his GEICO app to call for a tow truck because it means they won’t have time to themselves.

One Million Moms Director Monica Cole said, “It was just a pretty sleazy type of commercial because the girl [in the commercial] was really disappointed when she realized they wouldn’t be able to pass the time alone together.”

She further explained how the ad is harmful to children:

Kids are drawn to animals. That’s normal. Animals are cute.  That’s why movies have animals that play the lead roles and the main parts. And it may be over their heads in terms of understanding the meaning behind it, but there’s a big concern when kids are being desensitized to this kind of thing.”

Cole also says GEICO previously dealt with this topic in a commercial where a bridesmaid flirted with the iconic gecko.

GEICO did not have a comment on the matter.
