It was a sad day for a lot of people in our area on November 1, 2004, when we heard about the death of Terry (Knapp) Knight who grew up in Lapeer. Terry the former manager of Grand Funk Railroad, was murdered at his home in Texas. He was defending his daughter during a domestic disturbance, when he was stabbed by her boyfriend.

Terry started out as a DJ at WTAC in Flint moved to Detroit radio ending up at CKLW doing the night shift and introducing his young listeners to the British Invasion of Rock & Roll. Terry was so heavy into The Rolling Stones he got the nickname “the sixth Rolling Stone” Terry left radio for a career in music by being the lead singer of the band called Terry Knight and the Pack, that would evolve to become Grand Funk Railroad.
