It seems Kiss and Motley Crue will be teaming up again as the two bands are set to headline this year's 'Rock Fest.' The four-day festival will be held from July 18 - 21 at the Venue in Cadott, Wis. and feature a variety of hard rocking veterans as well as newer acts.
On January 30th, 1973 less than 10 people witnessed the first live performances by Kiss at the Popcorn Club (soon to be renamed the Coventry) in Queens, N.Y. According to bassist Gene Simmons, the group was paid $50 for performing two sets that evening.
Sticking their proverbial tongue out at all challengers, and barring an uprising from fans of other bands, it looks as if Kiss is in line to be the biggest winner of the 2012 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards. As of now, with one week left in the voting, the band is ahead in six of the 11 categories.
Tommy Thayer didn't officially take over as lead guitarist of Kiss until 2002, but in a recent interview he admits he was prepared to hop on stage in a moment's notice as early as 1998. Due to recurring problems with Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons made Thayer the "heir apparent."
Kiss are making a comeback as comic book characters. Beginning in March, IDW Publishing will release a four-issue series starring the Demon, the Starchild, the Catman and the Spaceman. Up first will be Gene Simmons's Demon character in a story inspired by the song 'Radioactive' from the rocker's 1978 solo album.
Kiss were one of the top arena draws of the '70s, staging some of the most impressive concert spectacles of that era with their over-the-top theatrical performances. But the power of their live production almost cost guitarist Ace Frehley his life at a gig on Dec. 12, 1976 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Florida, when an unforeseen technical glitch caused him to nearly be electrocuted onstage.
As we're sure you know, today (Nov. 16, 2012) marks the 31st anniversary of the release of Kiss's much-derided concert album 'Music from the Elder.' Not even one year after announcing he would be bringing the story from that record to the big screen, director and writer Seb Hunter has delivered the first trailer from his 'Elder'-inspired movie.
According to Peter Criss, life in Kiss was, after the first few years, a power struggle, with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley on one side, and him and Ace Frehley on the other. In a new interview, he discusses that dynamic and how it led to his departure from Kiss.
