The College Football Playoff Will Be Called the College Football Playoff
The BCS conference commissioners reportedly decided on the obvious new name while convening in Pasadena, Calif. to discuss game site locations and other issues related to the four-team playoff slated to begin in 2014. Semifinal games will occur in a six-site rotation of bowl sites. The Rose, Sugar and Orange bowls are confirmed; others will be announced on Wednesday. Arlington, Tex. and Tampa, Fla. are competing to host the championship game, which we assume will be called the College Football Championship Game.
Though it's easy to be snarky about the bland name for the highly anticipated college football playoff, football fans should remember that the first two 'Super Bowl' games were actually called the 'AFL-NFL World Championship Game.' Of course, they also had college bands as halftime entertainment.
