Veal calf
PESHTIGO, WI – APRIL 25: A veal calve stares out of the pen at Lysauke Yang, a Hmong immigrant’s farm, where he keeps nearly 500 veal calves April 25, 2006 Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Lysauke moved to America in 1983 when his family left the Nan Yau refugee camp in northeast Thailand for Phillidelphia. Lysauke and his family then relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1997. Lysauke, who has a civil engineering degree from UW Platteville in Wisconsin, worked odd jobs before buying the veal farm about 4 years ago in Peshtigo. Lysauke wanted to be a farmer because farming is a very important part of the Hmong people in Southeast Asia and is a good way to make a living for family. Being farm owner and operator, Lysauke can rarely afford to take a day off or vacations; the last being over two years ago for three days when he took his family to Milwaukee to visit his parents.
