
Canadian Announcer Confuses Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte While Calling Race
As far as blunders go, this is about as bad as it gets.
Elliotte Friedman is an announcer with Canada's CBC who mixed up Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte during the 200 meter individual medley on Thursday night. He thought Lochte won the race and Phelps finished short of a medal, when, in fact, Phelps won his 22nd gold medal, while Lochte failed to medal.
Yeah, a case of mistaken identity is embarrassing enough, but to do it when it involved the greatest Olympian in history makes it that much worse.
To his credit, Friedman, a well-known hockey announcer, apologized for the gaffe, with most people quick to forgive him because Canadians want to perpetuate the stereotype they are so darned nice:
