Claressa Shields may be an international superstar, but she has definitely never forgotten where she came from.

That's why it should be no surprise to see Shields stepping up to help make sure families in Flint and surrounding areas will have a great Christmas this year. She is teaming up with a number of community partners to hold a Food, Toys, and Winterwear giveaway on December 23rd.

The event is happening at AT Fitness in Mt Morris on Thursday, December 23rd.

Shields has always been committed to helping out in Flint and Genesee County however she can.

This is not something that is just reserved for the holidays either. Shields has held summer camps for young girls in Flint aimed at helping them build confidence through boxing. The camps focused on more than just boxing and sports though as Shields worked to help kids in Flint realize that there is an entire world waiting for them.

The problem is that Flint is a city in need right now, despite all of the progress we have made. We still have a large population of our residents living without some of the basic essentials. So it should be easy to understand that the idea of a huge Christmas may be out of reach for some of our most at-risk neighbors. That's why it's so encouraging to see stars like Shields work year-round to help lift our city up.

The event is set up to help as many families in need as possible, while still hanging on to the Christmas joy.

There will be pictures with Santa for the kids, and Shields herself will also be taking pictures with fans along with signing autographs.

If you would like to donate to the event, you can contact AT Fitness on Facebook here. They should be able to help direct you to the right place to make sure your donation gets in the hands of a family who needs it.
