Films On Oakdale And The Lapeer State Home
Lapeer's Marguerite deAngeli Library and co-author of Oakdale: The Lapeer State Home Laura Fromwiller will be presenting three historical films on the institution.
You'll see the State Home grounds and the institution’s day-to-day life as well as the deinstitutionalization of the residents.
The films to be shown are:
Michigan History of Our State Institutions for People with Developmental Disabilities
A Wind Is Rising is an investigative report from WJRT TV on the conditions of Oakdale in 1962
A Chance to Shine produced by the Macomb-Oakland Regional Center
There will be two sessions to view the videos first on Saturday, October 14, at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, November 8, at 6:00 p.m.
