At a rare-Sunday press conference today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer outlined new guidelines for Michiganders as the number of COVID-19 cases in our state continues to rise.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has issued a new emergency order that will put a three-week pause on indoor dining, gatherings, entertainment, sporting venues, colleges, universities, and some Michigan schools.

The order, which begins at 12:01 am on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, will also limit indoor gatherings at residential homes to no more than 10 people from a maximum of two households.

The order allows for food takeout and outdoor dining where no more than six people are gathered per table and tables are spaced six feet apart. Hair salons will remain open and shopping is permitted as long as masks are worn and social distancing guidelines are followed.

Colleges and universities will be forced to prohibit in-person learning and extracurricular activities. High school students in grades 9-12 will convert to online learning, while students in lower grades will be permitted to participate in in-person instruction. Sports and extracurricular activities are also prohibited.

The graphic below from the MDHHS outlines what business and activities will be restricted and allowed.

Full details of the order, which will be in effect through December 8, are available here.
