Within the last 10 years, Downtown Flint's Flint Journal building transformed into the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine campus.

Its formation helped the community with public research needed to navigate Flint's water crisis among other things.

New MSU facility for Downtown Flint

The new three-story building will have plenty of space for offices, instruction, research and administration according to MLive.

The 40,000-square-foot facility will be constructed on the current MSU College of Human Medicine campus.

Community Partners Come Together to Expand MSU Footprint in Flint, MI

The community & state partners involved in making it happen include:

  • The Michigan Strategic Fund Board ($5.6M Grant)
  • Uptown Reinvestment Corporation ($24.5M) which helped with the initial MSU building & new Farmers' Market location.
  • Mott Foundation ($15M to Uptown toward construction costs)

Back in the day, Charles Stewart Mott helped U of M Flint get established in Downtown Flint, too.

Michigan Economic Development Corporation says the focus of MSU's expanded public health research will include domestic violence and suicide prevention.

Approximately 130 jobs will be created over the next four+ years, too.
